Broken drain fitting on a Mercruiser 4.3L I/O

Friend of mine decided it was time to winterize his boat.  His 4.3L has 4 drain points, two brass plugs on the block and two plastic combo elbows and drain plugs under the exhaust manifold.  When he went to remove the petcock under the exhaust manifold, it broke off.  He then tried to "extract" it himself and broke the elbow!  Now I am going to have to remove the exhaust manifold to get what's left of the plastic elbow out of the manifold. I'll snap some pics tomorrow afternoon of this disaster as it's unfolding.

Luckily (if you want to call it luck, it was kind of a bad design in the first place) mercruiser makes the plastic elbows and they are fairly cheap, $21 for a pair of them.

I removed the manifold and torched what was left of the elbow out.  They had applied some sort of pipe dope to the elbow before installation and that basically turned into concrete.  There was no extracting it without burning it out that I could see.  Manifold once again has clean threads and I'll be reinstalling once the parts arrive.

He just rolled out of the yard with it.   New plastic elbows installed and new gaskets on the manifold and riser.
